Minimum wage should be abolished because of the inherent ineffiencies that it creates for itself. To artificially influence the minimum wage is to create a false sense of worth and also does not allow the actual value of labor to be portrayed to the actual market. You may think that employers will then reduce wages to an incredibly low level. This is not possible because people’s value for the time and effort would not be worth the low wage. Therefore the market would come to equilibrium with wages and value for individual’s time and effort in mind, there would be no labor surplus. If there is a continued increase in minimum wage we will face a serious problem. I foresee a serious problem, either entry level positions will be phased out completely, or robots will replace all entry level people. Robots create a solution to increase in labor costs, they don’t call in sick or have personal problems which makes them appealing to employers. Unfortunately there has been a $1.43 increase per hour over the past three years. If this continues then in the year 2018 every entry level job will be paid $19.18. Can you see the problem with this current policy? I understand that the minimum wage was increased for several different reasons in the past to reflect inflation and to bring up the standards of living for the country, but at what cost. So what do we need to do about this? We can ignore it and be ignorant to the fact that on our current path we will put ourselves into a state of severe unemployment. I understand that it is difficult for you to write to someone to ask them to pay you less money. I’m not asking you to do that I am asking you to negotiate every wage for every job. As free market and capitalism has shown us is the most effective and efficient way to decide prices. Eventual outsourcing, robots, or Black market labor will create a huge problem that will perpetuate the problem with funding for social services. So please keep this in mind and fight minimum wage increase by spreading the knowledge of the detrimental impacts the increases have on our economy and future Americans.
